N. 0. Civil Service Minutes - 1/22/76 <br />Page 2 <br />Old Business: <br />The Commission proceeded to discuss the issue of changing the credit for <br />veteran's preference from the present 20% credit. <br />Motion by John Grady, seconded by Bill Coming that the present veteran's <br />preference allowance of 20% which has been added to a candidate score who <br />has passed a Civil Service examination for the North Olmsted Civil Service <br />Commission, be changed to the following procedure: <br />Each candidate can receive veteran's preference and/or college <br />education credit up to a total of five raw score points on a <br />competitive examination for the North Olmsted Civil Service <br />Commission using the following procedures: <br />1. A candidate will receive one point for each year of <br />military service up to three years. <br />2. A candidate will receive one point for each year of <br />college education up to two years. — <br />3. A full year of credit will be given for partial years <br />of six months or more for military service. <br />4. A candidate must submit proof of military service time <br />and an Honorable Discharge. <br />5. A candidate must submit proof of college education with <br />a copy of a valid transcript from an accredited college <br />or university. <br />6. A candidate must pass the examination to receive additional <br />military or college credit. <br />Passed. <br />Motion by John Grady, seconded by Bill Coming that successful candidates for <br />the certified lists of Fireman and Policeman must pass a physical examination <br />(medical) and an appropriate physical fitness examination to be determined by <br />the Commission, Safety Director, and Fire and Police Chiefs. <br />Passed. <br />
