North Olmsted Civil Service Commission May 27, 1976 Page 8 The Civil Service Commission proceeded to discuss another matter concerning the need for a Fireman's Examination and an acceptable test of physical agility for the Fire Department. The Commission reviewed a number of examples of agility exams used in other Ohio communities. The Commission instructed the secretary to send the Safety Director and Fire Chief a letter which would ask for their recom- mendations for an agility test. It was also to be stated that a Fireman's Exam would not, be proceeded with until an agility test had been agreed upon. New Business: The Commission proceeded to review a request by J. Robert Kraps, Personnel Director, North Olmsted Board of Education, on a classification of three new job descriptions for a number of custodian positions in the non -certified division of school employees. Mr. Kraps submitted three classifications of Custodian I, II and III to be reviewed by the Commission. The position of Custodian I and II would be classified with Custodian II as an entrance level position. Custodian I would be a promotional position and the Custodian III would be an unclassi- fied position. The above request was presented because of problems with obtaining successful candidates under the present classifications. The Commission discussed the high cost of testing and agreed to look for solutions to cut down on costs. One possible solution would be to investigate the charging of a fee for candidates taking examinations. The Commission agreed in principle with the Board of Education's request and the line of promotion from Class II to I. It has ordered the secretary to ask Mr. Kraps to review and compare more closely the job descriptions. of Custodian I and II. Motion by Bill Coming, seconded by John Grady that an examination for the position of Custodian II be purchased for $400.00 from McCann Associates. as a permanent entrance examination. Passed.
