CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />a�-�. <br />The Commission discussed the letters from Patrolman Rini and Chief <br />Taylor concerning the number of days a suspension may be given <br />without the right to appeal. After considerable deliberation, a <br />motion was made by Harry Malone, seconded by Roger Alexander, that <br />an answer be sent to Patrolman Gary Rini, #22 of the North Olmsted <br />Police Department regarding his question on suspension as follows: <br />The North Olmsted Civil Service Commission has <br />studied at length the matter of the number of days <br />< <� <br />a suspension may be given without the right to <br />appeal and feels it is in the province of the <br />c S <br />North Olmsted Civil Service Comms s ionfi�o ti'rescx>ibe, <br />q�l <br />S� <br />amend, and enforce rule or e c esslficatio� n' "�}`e �' <br />, �' N <br />of'fic-es, positions, and e�ployment in the Civil <br />_)vService <br />of and <br />therefor; foreappointments, for <br />cC' to kf <br />promotions, removalsmination <br />� appointments, promotions, > <br />transfers, lay-offs, <br />a � .lr <br />k a <br />suspensions, reduction and ��� <br />�N <br />reinstatement therein; and for standardizing <br />�� so <br />positions and maintaining efficiency therein". <br />,o <br />(1- <br />� <br />C �X <br />Thus, we feel a five day suspension without right <br />,�� \�� <br />to appeal has been appropriate for the last ten <br />CO ° eau c� <br />years and still is. <br />o ,4 <br />Passed. <br />V� <br />Motion by Roger Alexander, seconded by Harry Malone, that an <br />answer be sent to Chief Taylor and Michael Garemu in regard <br />to <br />probationary time for dispatchers and clerks as follows: <br />2 > <br />Dispatchers and clerks are under a one year pro- <br />bationary period as are all city employees as <br />stated in the Rules and Regulations of the Civil <br />Service Commission of the City of North Olmsted; <br />Rule VII, 7T6: "All classes of positions shall <br />be one (1) -year." <br />Dispatchers were made unclassified as of <br />December 23, 1976. <br />Passed. <br />The commission discussed with Chief Taylor the problems concerning <br />filling the Clerk positions in the Police Department. The Secretary <br />will check into alternative methods of advertising and testing for <br />the position. <br />Motion by Harry Malone, seconded by Roger Alexander, that a letter <br />be sent to the City Engineer requesting job descriptions for the <br />
