-2 -
Minutes
March 31, 1983-
CIVIL
983
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates should be
in greater depth and a clearer explanation of the test scores themselves
should be included. It was suggested that McCann Consultants be con-
tactedas to whether they offered this type of test.
Police Radio Dispatcher
Chief Taylor informed the Commission of the necessity for scheduling
the Civil Service Test for this position. The established certified for
this position had been depleted without replacingthe dispatcher who
had resigned. This position seems to be a problem due to the low
wages and unusual working hours which include evenings and weekends on
a rotating shift. Mrs. Bahas said that she would schedul the test as
soon as possible and would include both the wages and thehours in the
announcement so that prospective candidates would be aware of the condi-
tions before applying.
Revision of the Rules and the -Regulations
Mrs. Bahas informed the Commission Members that she had parts I and;II
completed for discussion but that due to the unavoidable cancellation
of the February meeting and the fact that she was scheduled to address
Council at 9:00 p.m., she would not present this to council at this
meeting.
None.
New Business
Informal Comments
Police Chief Taylor remarked to that his department had difficulty
in keeping good employee relations with his clerical staff as well as
the dispatchers because of the disparity of wages and merit pay awards
between his staff and the staff of other departments who were employed
under the same Civil Service Title and Classification. The secretary
also commented that she had been approached on several occa sions by
different employees in various departments regarding the same subject,
of disparity and pssible lack of rationale. Mr. Alexander directed the
secretary to write a letter to Law Director Mr. Gareau and request his
opinion as to whether this was within the realm of the Civil Service
Commission according to his interpretation of the O.R.C.
Adjournment
Motion for adjournment was made by Chairman Roger Alexander and seconded
by Philip Huffman. Meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m. The next meeting was
scheduled for April 28, 1983.
Respectfully submitted by,
Chairman • • • . ------ Secretary
