d.
If
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
a®.cts
MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING - JANUARY 16. 1985,
The special meeting of the North Olmsted Civil Service Commission was called to order
at 8:22 p.m. by Chairman Philip Huffman. In attendance were Commission members n
McKay and Philip Huffman, ecretary Sandi Westerfeld, Gene Petre, Captain T. Mairsh,
Captain R. Kriiak—anT Former Chief Marion Taylor.
Minutes: Approval of the minutes of the last three meetings was deferred to the end
of the meeting.
Police Chief Exam: Mr. Petre grought up the rule change made at a special meeting of
included in
the Commission on June 4, 1984 and requested that this be voted
upon at a regular meeting. The Commission ordered that this be
the agenda of the next regular meeting on January 24, 1985.
Regarding the testing service to be used, it was the concensus of opinion that McCann
Associates was a very good service due to the fact that the test questions directly
pertained to the position being tested and also due to the fact that McCann's has a
very high level of confidentiality. Former Chief Taylor stated that when he took the
tests, no questions were repeated on the Chiefs test that were on the Captains test.
The Commission felt that there was no need to change testing services at this time.
It was suggested to hold the,Chief and Lieutenant tests together rather than the
Sergeant and Lieutenant -tests in order to have fewer men off duty at one time.
Former Chief Taylor thanked the Commission for their hard work and dedication and left
the meeting.
Extension of Sergeants and Lieutenants Certified Lists: It is not necessary to extend
these lists since new lists
will be in effect after testing.
Firefighter Physical Agility Test: The Commission approved the contract and expenditure
of $150.00 to American Physical Qualification Testing
Corp.
Hearing of Lawrence Coreno: Secretary Westerfeld was ordered by the Commission to inform
Mr. Coreno that they have ruled to uphold the suspension
imposed on him by Mr. Mues A carbon copy of the letter will
also be sent to the Law Director.
Firefighter Candidate Donald T. Herman: Secretary Westerfeld explained that Mr. Herman
took the test while on leave from the service.
His service dates are. June, 1981 through June,
1985 and, therefore, Mr. Herman could not produce his DD 214 Form for the veteran's
points although he more than qualified for the maximum allowed. Secretary Westerfeld
reported that she requested and received confirmation of military service for Mr. Herman
from the'Air Force and the Commission granted the awarding of veteran's points to Mr.
Herman.
Firefighter Residency Requirement: Secretary Westerfeld stated that there was the
-possibility that the residence requirements were not
stated anywhere in the correspondence to the candidates.
Mr. Petre suggested checking the application to see if that information was included.
