CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION - NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO MINUTES - JANUARY 24, 1985 ROLL CALL: The regular meeting of the North Olmsted Civil Service Commission was called to order at 8:03 p.m. by Chairman Phil fman. In attendance were Commissioner Dean McKay, Secretary Sandi Westerfel , im Kline and Chief VanKuren. -- DISPOSITION OF MINUTES': Approval of the January 16 Special Meeting was deferred to the end of the meeting so Mr. Kline could make his proposal to the Commission. NEW BUSINESS: Mr. Kline reported that before he began the proposed reconstruction of positions for the Board of Education, he discussed with over 60 employees their job as it actually is versus the old jcr descriptions. He proposed reorganization, new positions and some consolidation due to the fact that the school system is getting smaller because of less enrollment of students; 8,300 to 4,700. Mr. Kline went over the complete proposal (a copy of -izhich will be kept with the files). Part of the proposal contained changing to open testing for promotional positions due to lack of interest of the qualified employees. Mr. Kline was informed that the Commission would render a decision by the next meeting. UNFINISHED BUSINESS -- Firefighter Positio Chief VanKuren discussed the procedures other Commissions use after examination - when -the physical agility test is given, they also do an eye examination and minor physical on all the top 30 candidates. Hb:stated that Mr. Novak is still a problem inthat we have not yet heard from Law Dirertor Gareau. It was decided that the Commission would accept Mr. Gareau's decision andthat Chief VanKuren could act upon that immediately. New Rule - At this regular meeting of the Commission, it was established that the CommEs-sion restates a rule voted upon. at the June 4, 1984 meeting as follows: The Commission estaished..the rule that in the event that two candidates were not available for a. prewtional test, the probationary officer would be eligible for the test before drekWing down to the next lower rank. This would apply to the safety forces.only and.vwill.be:added under the North Olmsted Civil Service Rules as subsection "f" under Rule (Emination Process). Clerk/Typist Examination - It was established that the processing fee for this examination would be $5.00.
