CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION - <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />MINUTES - JANUARY 24, 1985 <br />ROLL CALL: <br />The regular meeting of the North Olmsted Civil Service Commission was called to order <br />at 8:03 p.m. by Chairman Phil fman. In attendance were Commissioner Dean McKay, <br />Secretary Sandi Westerfel , im Kline and Chief VanKuren. -- <br />DISPOSITION OF MINUTES': <br />Approval of the January 16 Special Meeting was deferred to the end of the meeting so <br />Mr. Kline could make his proposal to the Commission. <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />Mr. Kline reported that before he began the proposed reconstruction of positions for <br />the Board of Education, he discussed with over 60 employees their job as it actually <br />is versus the old jcr descriptions. He proposed reorganization, new positions and <br />some consolidation due to the fact that the school system is getting smaller because <br />of less enrollment of students; 8,300 to 4,700. Mr. Kline went over the complete <br />proposal (a copy of -izhich will be kept with the files). Part of the proposal contained <br />changing to open testing for promotional positions due to lack of interest of the <br />qualified employees. Mr. Kline was informed that the Commission would render a decision <br />by the next meeting. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS -- <br />Firefighter Positio Chief VanKuren discussed the procedures other Commissions use <br />after examination - when -the physical agility test is given, <br />they also do an eye examination and minor physical on all the <br />top 30 candidates. Hb:stated that Mr. Novak is still a problem inthat we have not yet <br />heard from Law Dirertor Gareau. It was decided that the Commission would accept Mr. <br />Gareau's decision andthat Chief VanKuren could act upon that immediately. <br />New Rule - At this regular meeting of the Commission, it was established that the <br />CommEs-sion restates a rule voted upon. at the June 4, 1984 meeting as <br />follows: <br />The Commission estaished..the rule that in the event that two candidates were not <br />available for a. prewtional test, the probationary officer would be eligible for the <br />test before drekWing down to the next lower rank. This would apply to the safety <br />forces.only and.vwill.be:added under the North Olmsted Civil Service Rules as subsection <br />"f" under Rule (Emination Process). <br />Clerk/Typist Examination - It was established that the processing fee for this <br />examination would be $5.00. <br />
