NORTH OLMSTED CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Regular Meeting - May 30, 1985 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ph 11' Huffman at 7:35 p.m. In attendance were Commission Members Dean McKay and Gus Bahas (not yet sworn in) and Secretary Sandi Westerfeld. MINUTES: The minutes of meetings held May 13 and April 23, 1985 were approved as read. LETTER OF COMPLAINT: A letter of complain was received from Beverly Phillips regarding smoking being permittted at the Secretary II exam given May 29, 1985. (Letter will be kept in.. Secretary's correspondence notebook). After some discussion it was decided by the Commission that another examination would not be ordered because smoking was permitted. The circumstances surrounding the situation were such that Mrs. Phillips was in some discomfort only for a ten-minute period and then moved to a table far away from the smokers and near an open doorway. The Commission will certainly make an attempt to see that smokers and non-smokers will be separated in future testing. FIREFIGHTER CAPTAIN'S EXAM ELIGIBILITY: The question was raised that if a Lieutenant passed his eligibility status on June 15, would he be eligible to take the Captain's exam. The Commission, based on the rules, informed Secretary Westerfeld that, yes, he would be eligible since the retirement date of June 30 and test date in July would both be after the June 15 date. That will make three Lieutenants eligible for the Captain's exam. Also, Secretary Westerfeld was instructed to order the test from the Ohio Fire Chief's Association. POLICE DEPARTMENT CLERK/TYPIST RESULTS: Passing grade of 98 was determined after discussion by the Commission. Attached to these minutes are the results.
