CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
OMEM &
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING - November 17., 1988 - 4:30 P.M.
Present: Commissioners; Bob Wendt, Tom Stroh, Madeline Brookshire, Police Chief
Marsh, Capt. Dennis Sefcek.
Minutes.'of the previous meeting set aside to hear the concerns of the police
department representatives.
The Chief discussed the need for a,pglice dispatcher test. The commissioners
related that we were ready to test for this position sometime ago, but were
advised to hold off for budget purposes. Also, until the question of the 911
number was refined. Commissioners agreed to test for this position after the
first of the year and the wording of the classified ad would be presented to
the Chief before being inserted into the classified ad department of the
various newspapers. Targeted date for this test would be last week in January.
OLD BUSINESS
The upcoming City Clerk's test was discussed and up to this time we have about
18 people signed up to take this test. A discussion was held on the very little
interest that is shown by'the general public on this test. The feelings expressed
surrounded the fact that the starting salary was too low and even though all the
fringe benefits were emphasized we cannot seem to get applications for testing.
Commissioners agreed to formulate a letter directed to Council requesting they
review the salary for the Clerk position. Also, surrounding areas.would be
polled to inquire what the starting salary for a comparable position in their
district is. The clerk position needs to be filled as soon as possible and
the testing company has been requested to forward to us the results of the test
as soon as they can. Mr. Wendt will compose this letter and forward same to
Council.
Question raised re the hiring of a Pretreatment Coordinator for the Waste Water
Treatment Plant. Mr. Wendt will investigate this hiring with the Service
Director and the commission will determine whether or not this person is covered
by civil service in a non-competetive capacity: -
OLD BUSINESS
Resumed discussions surrounding the revision of the Civil Service Rules &
Regulations. The revised copy should be printed the beginning of January and
ready for distribution.
The next meeting of the commission will be Thursday, December 15, 1988. This
meeting is planned as a luncheon meeting and unless there is something that
needs ' iate attention themeeting will be la Id in a local restaurant.
Z/f
Peg Hi ,Secretary Robert A.
