3
N.O. CIVIL SERVICE MEETING - Page #5
TEST MONITORS:
The secretary discussed the fact that one monitor is required for every
25 people tested. There is a list of monitors used in the testing
process in civil service files. Dorothy Mago from the City has been
asked to monitor in the past and has done a very fine job for the
commission. Other monitors, of course, are the commissioners and the
secretary, unless the secretary gives the examination herself.
Along these lines regarding the upcoming police test - Jim Andrews, Head
Custodian, at the North Olmsted High School has been contacted and asked
to set up the cafetorium for this test.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Letter received from Gary Valek re rejection from the certified list due
to age. The Police Chief did reject this candidate due to the fact that
at the interview time he was over the age limit of 35. The commission
suggested writing to Mr. Valek and inform him that it was his
responsibility to note the entry level age for a police officer in the
classified ad.
Correspondence received covering the cost of medicals, psychological,
and various other invoices for a candidate for the position of entry
level police officer. It is very costly to hire an officer and some of
the bills forwarded to the commission prove that fact. It is therefore,
the secretary pointed out, one of the reasons why the commission is at
times seeking additional funding. A single candidate may total over
$600.00 in psychological and medical bills. Therefore, nine additional
police officers would cost over $5400.00. Mr. Wilamosky stated the
commission would have to ask for additional funding when the time came.
ADJOURNMENT:
As there was no further matters to be brought before the commission the
meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M.
The secretary was asked if she could stay on until the end of March to
assist the new secretary with the results of the police test and assist
in establishing a test for Radio Dispatcher. The secretary did say she
would extend her leaving until the end of the month.
WAt (1h, f
Thomas M. Stroh, Chairman Peg Hill, Secretary
