N. 0. CIVIL SERVICE MEETING
PAGE 2
Chief Sefcek and Ron Wilamosky both would like a list of police
candidates who passed the police exam. Chief Sefcek wanted to
start the background investigations and try and eliminate any
candidates who would be eliminated later (due to lack of time -
the Police Chief has 6 openings and the agility test is
scheduled a month after the written test was given due to the
North Olmsted High School gym was not available until May 19).
The commission decided to give the Chief the top 20 names in
random order so that he could start the investigations. Tom
Stroh strongly hesitated about giving the list to anyone because
of the concern of obtaining the spirit of the civil service
laws. Ron Wilamosky was not given a list. After the agility
test is given then the list is for public record.
Chief Sefcek said that when a candidate is taken off the
eligibility list it is the commission who takes them off the list,
the police/fire departments just suggest that this candidate
should be removed and gives us the reason why. The candidate
can then appeal, but then the reason that candidate is taken
off the list is then public record and the candidates usually
do not want that.
Ron Wilamosky mentioned about eliminating the military points
for the exams because people have not been drafted for a while
and if they go into the military it is on their own free will -
so why should we deprive individuals who made the decision to
go to collet from getting extra credit points too. Ron feels
that we are passing up othergood candidates by not giving them
the points.
The commission decided to leave as is and military credit will
still be given credit.
ADJOURNMENT:
As there was no further matters to be brought before the commission,
the meeting adjourned at 5:20 pm.
4Rot :•lendt, Commissioner Tracy Ice, Secretary
