CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 23, 1992
PAGE 2
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Laster of Cleveland State University will meet with Mr. Gundy
and Mr. Robinson on February 11, 1992 at 3:00 pm at Rhodes Tower
Room 1227. Mr. Laster will get all students who are interested in
taking the entry level police examination together so that
Mr. Robinson can speak to them and try and recruit them.
Chief Osterhouse would like the commission to put in the Handbook
that there is an 18 month probation period for entry level
firefighters.
Chief Osterhouse also wanted to know if our handbook is an addition
to the Ohio Laws Book. Henry Robinson said that it is a supplement.
Chief Osterhouse then wanted a copy of the Ohio Laws but the
Commission did not feel it was necessary.
Chief Osterhouse felt that a few of his entry level firefighter
candidates have had problems meeting our vision requirements. Tracy
Ice said that she would call a few of the local cities and compare
their vision requirements to ours.
Ron Wilamosky would like to add a section in the handbook on sexual
harassment. He says there are different kinds of sexual
harassment/harassment. Ron said they have had a brief case which
they had to work with. The Commission will look at the rough draft
that he submitted and discuss this issue.
Tracy Ice asked if the Building Inspector job will be posted? Ron
Wilamosky said that under the terms of the agreement that he must
post the job.
Tracy Ice asked the question - if someone in the Service Department
wants to try for the Building Inspector job does he/she have to take
the test? Ron Wilamosky replied that if the person who works in the
Service Department is under a different bargaining unit that this
person must pass the test and be at the top portion. If this person
is in the clerical/technical unit and is in the same bargaining
unit, under the terms of agreement, that this person does not have
to take the civil service test. Ron said that he can implement his
own test to see whether or not this person qualifies. It's the right
of the contract to bid on a job.
