CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 24, 1992
PAGE 2
OLD BUSINESS
Tom Fattlar from the Recreation Department has 4 supervisors who do
not have union coverage. The Commission decided they would now have
Civil Service protection. Letters to Tom Fattlar and those four
employees will go out advising them of the same..
At this time no secretarial test is schedule for the City.
NEW BUSINESS
Mayor Boyle advised the commission that Henry Robinson verbally
resigned, earlier this week, from the commission. Paper work will
follow some time next week. No one has been appointed at this time to
replace him.
Jim Hines was appointed our new Chairman for the Civil Service
Commission.
Glenn Marks was sworn in before our meeting by Mayor Boyle. Glenn
replaces Al Kovelan and his term will be completed on 12-31-97.
Mayor Boyle suggested that the Commission have a meeting to discuss
how the oral/written promotional tests went and if this is the route
we should continue to take.
The Commission decided that at our next meeting that we will have a
hearing to decided and discuss whether Janet Kemerling should be
removed from our Property Maintenance list due to lack of experience.
Letters went out to Mr. Conway, Janet Kemerling and Mike Gareau asking
that they show up for this meeting.
Mr. Kline of the Personnel Department at the schools retired and
Mr. Ted Blank replaced him.
Mr. Blank sent Jim Hines a fax stating that since the schools only
have 3 positions, (secretarial, clerical and custodian) that are
testable for civil service, that they would like to have the union and
the school sign a letter stating that they no longer require civil
service testing. (JIM HINES WILL SEND TRACY ICE A COPY OF THIS FAX.
JIM WILL ALSO CHECK WITH M. GAREAU AND SEE IF THE BOARD/
UNION AGREES ON THIS --- IF THEY CAN DO AWAY WITH CIVIL SERVICE.)
