CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
• 5200 Dover Center Road • North Olmsted, Ohio 44070
Phone: 777-8000 Ext. 232
Fax: 777-5889
CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES: JUNE 21, 1993
PRESENT: Chairman Jim Hines, Commissioners Glenn Marks and
Lois Zolar, Secretary Tracy Ice
GUESTS: Mr. Gundy, Ron Wilamosky
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED AS READ.
OLD BUSINESS
Cooperative Personnel Services is the testing company out of CA who
supplied the test which we used for the Building Inspector test. One
of the candidates filed a suite with the United States District Court
claiming that the examination had a discriminatory impact on the
charging applicant, and he is seeking relief from the Court of
Jurisdiction. Ron Wilamosky asked that Civil Service get this test
and will send this test to the U.S. District Court as evidence. Ron
will check with. Mike Gareau to see if he can make a copy of the test.
Tracy Ice will check with Ron, every so often, to see when she can get
the test back to return it to CPS.
No Civil Service was advised by Mr. Gundy that we should wait until the
fall to see when to give the Dispatcher Exam. The Building Inspector
test will be given next year.
Secretarial II test was given on June 7, 1993. Forty-one candidates
were expected and only 37 showed up. One candidate was late. The
commission went over the results at our June 21, 1993 meeting. They
set the passing score at 65%. Twenty-nine candidates passed the test
and 8 failed. All of the results went out on June 24, 1993.
The typing test is scheduled for July 20, 1993 at 7:00 pm at the N.
Olmsted High School Typing Room #363. All 29 candidates have been
notified to take this test. This test will consist of practice time,
three five minute timings, candidates will then proof the three
timings and will place their best timing on top. Carol Stotzner
(high school typing teacher) will administer the test and grade them.
She will count the correct wpm - one point will be deducted for each
error. Each candidate must type 45 wpm or better to remain on our
eligibility list. Carol Stotzner will charge $100 to administer and
grade this tests.
The Commission looked over the test the night of the exam. and was
surprised to see that there was no grammar, spelling or punctuation.
Before another test will be given, the commission would like to check
out other testing companies or speak to McCann & Associates with
adding grammar, spelling and punctuation to be a part of this test.
Ron Wilamosky agreed that Civil Service should make this change that
this is an important part of a secretaries job.
