Ruple felt that.we are losing good Police candidates due to our high vision standards: Capt' Ruple asked, "What would a person with 20/60 vision see. Can they distinguish between a gun and a bottle?" Over the past month, Tracy had called other cities and asked that they send N. Olmsted a copy of their vision standards. The Commission reviewed them and will wait until Chief Sefcek speaks to Dr. Hoffman. Dr. Hoffman is an eye doctor who at one time was on the Commission. The Chief will get Dr. Hoffman's thoughts on our vision requirements and will report his findings to Jim Hines. Then Jim Hines will notify Chief Osterhouse and get his thoughts. If all goes smoothly, then Jim will talk to the Commission and decide on what we should change in our vision standards. Jim will then notify Tracy to make the changes to I' our handbook and our Fire Fighter's test, that will be going out to - print before the end of this month. We are hoping that by changing the vision standards, a little, that more good candidates will qualify \ to serve on our Police and Fire Departments.
