2) Report on handbook. At the October meeting, Mr. Powers raised several questions
concerning the handbook. The commission received a copy of those questions in their
packets. Assistant Chief Smith noted that he just reviewed the questions today, and wondered
if this can be deferred so that the Chief can give an opinion. The commissioners agreed to
defer this until the next meeting as they believed it is only right that both sides have the chance
to give an opinion. Chief Viola wanted to make his concerns regarding question seven clear,
he believed that it is necessary and repetitiveness should not be a major concern, as it helps
clarify and possibly will avoid future problems.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
1) Mr. Cumming's was concerned about the inclusion of the schools in the civil service
handbook. He noted, that he represented the schools when they requested to be taken out of
civil service, and believed an ordinance was passed in 1993, in effect removing the schools
from civil service. He explained, Clerk of Council Barb Seman noted that the ordinance was
passed in October of 1993. If this is true, he believed the schools should be eliminated from
the handbook. Mr. Cummings would like this on the next agenda, and requested that the
secretary verify areas in the book where this appears.
There were no new items to be heard at this time.
X.
