B) The Police Captain's and Chief s assessments were held on January 17, 1998. Reveal results if
they have been received. Chief Viola advised the results were revealed in the same manner as the.
last assessment. The Assessment Company faxed the civil service secretary the results, with the
safety directors secretary present to verify. The candidates agreed unanimously that this is the way
they would prefer to have the results revealed. Each candidate for the Captain's and Chief s
assessment received 11 points extra credit. The results were listed in order of a random
identification number rather than rank, so Chairman Cummings arranged the candidates in ranked
order. For the Police Chief s examination the ranked order was as follows: Rank #1- I.D. #002 -
George Ruple; and Rank #2 - I.D. #001 - Kevin Whelan. For the Police Captains examination the
ranked order was as follows: Rank # 1 - I.D. #003 - Wayne Wozniak; Rank # 2 - I.D. #004 -
Jamie Gallagher; and Rank #3 - I.D. #005 - Robert Flynn.. E. Cummings motioned to certify the
eligibility list for the Police Captains and Chiefs tests, the motion was seconded by L. Zolar and
unanimously approved. Mr. Cummings stated, since the candidates were aware of their results this
afternoon, they will have until January 29, 1998 to file a protest. Chief Viola advised eight
Lieutenants will take the assessment this Saturday and he suggested using the same format so the
results can possibly be revealed unofficially on Monday, January 26, 1998. The commission called
a special meeting for Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of making the results
of the Lieutenants Assessment official and certifying the results.
C) Corrections Officer candidate Jennifer Oliver forwarded a letter to the civil service commission
requesting extra credit consideration for military service. Please review the enclosed submittal.
Extra credit was not granted to this candidate because Form DD -214 was not submitted with the
filing of the application. This applicant has received Form DD -214 since the results were revealed
and is now requesting extra credit consideration. The commission reviewed Ms. Oliver's letter
dated January 13, 1998 in conjunction with the rules set forth at the time of the examination. Mr.
Cummings pointed out.the results have already been sent out and in is inappropriate to change the
results at this time. Mrs. Zolar questioned why Form DD -214 was sent late. The clerk advised
Ms. Oliver had not yet received her DD -214 form. Mr. Cummings motioned to turn down Ms.
Oliver's request for extra credit consideration as the results have already been certified. The
motion was seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved.
D) Chief Osterhouse announced that the Entrance Firefighter examination will expire in May. As
there could be a couple of retirements he recommended that the civil service commission prepare a
test to be given the end of May or early June. Chairman Cummings advised we do not have to
wait until the list expires before offering another test. The clerk added a new list cannot be
certified until after the old list expires.
X. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
a,n 4 a,// I d-. co-'4U.'a,
E.
