secretary indicated that the Fire as well as the Police department was in the process of hiring entry
level candidates. She further indicated that the new documents would need to be filled out and
submitted or the applicable department would be assessed a $100.00 dollar fine a day until they
submit the required documents. The secretary indicated that she would contact the law department
and let them know that an opinion is needed right away. Mr. Cummings indicated the secretary
should send a letter to each of the candidates informing them of the new requirements. Mr. Thomay
suggested if the law was in effect there was an Ohio revised code that could be sited and should be
used in the letter. Mr. Cummings asked if the secretary had the revised code. The secretary
indicated she had not received an Ohio revised code. Mr. Thomay suggested that, if the revised
code was not at City Hall the law department should have a copy. He asked if the current budget
would be able to handle the price increase. The secretary reviewed that the 1999 budget was based
on 1998 totals, times the estimated openings for 1999. She indicated it would depend on the price
increase as well as the number of new hires in 1999. The existing budget might not be enough.
Mr. Cummings indicated that the Civil Service secretary should attend the yearly seminar given by
Clemans Nelson & Associates Inc. in the future, so the price .of the seminar should be added to the
budget each year.
Mr. Cummings motioned to send letters to the current candidates informing them that there was a
new law, House Bill 648, which had been enacted, and to also contact the physicians and ask for a
quote on the price of the new requirements. To get an idea of what the cost factor would be for the
Civil Service office. The motion was seconded by J. Thomay and unanimously approved. Motion
Carried.
X ADJOURNMENT:
Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm.
Ernest R. Cummings, Chairman
G'
Donna Rote, Civil Service Secretary
-o
