Section 8. Efficiency and Seniority Credit - Promotional Examinations <br />a. Credit for efficiency and seniority in promotional examinations within <br />the Fire and Police Departments shall not be a part of, but shall be a <br />credit to be added to the applicant's total score resulting from the competitive <br />examination, provided the applicant receives a passing grade in the <br />competitive examination. <br />b. Credit will not be added to the applicants score on the written portion of the <br />competitive examination alone, but only after completion of all portions of the <br />competitive examination process. <br />C. Seniority and efficiency evaluation point credits shall be awarded when the <br />efficiency evaluation results are received from the respective department for <br />which the promotional examination is being held. Efficiency evaluation credits <br />shall be awarded based on efficiency evaluation of the applicant by his/her <br />supervisor within six months of the scheduled examination. <br />d. Extra credit for seniority: <br />Will be recognized for years of service within the North Olmsted Police Department or <br />the North Olmsted Fire Department only. Service credits from other municipalities or <br />other civilian employment will not be honored in police and fire promotional <br />examinations. Extra credit for seniority within the respective departments shall be <br />awarded in the following manner: 1 point for each of the first four years; 6/10 point for <br />each additional year up to and including the fourteenth year for a maximum total of 10 <br />points. <br />1 yr. = 1 pt. 4 yrs._ = 4 pts. 7 yrs. = 5.8 pts. 10 yrs. = 7.6 pts. 13 yrs. = 9.4 pts <br />2 yrs. = 2 pts. 5 yrs. = 4.6 pts. 8 yrs. = 6.4 pts. 11 yrs. = 8.2 pts. 14 yrs. = 10 pts. <br />3 yrs. = 3 pts. 6 yrs. = 5.2 pts 9 yrs. = 7.0 pts. 12 yrs. = 8.8 pts. <br />e. Extra credit for efficiency shall be awarded in the following manner for Police <br />Department promotional examinations. The following scale shall be used: <br />Efficiency Rating <br />(E) <br />Exceeds Expectations 1 Points <br />Efficiency Rating <br />(M) <br />Meets Expectations 1 Points <br />Efficiency Rating <br />(B) <br />Below Expectations 0 Points <br />Efficiency Rating <br />(U) <br />Unsatisfactory 0 Points <br />The following factors shall be considered when awarding Efficiency Rating <br />Point Credit: The following factors and areas of expertise shall be used for Both <br />Police Officers and Detective: Commitment to Department Goals, Planning <br />and teamwork; Attendance/Punctuality; Conformance to Department Policies; <br />Regulations and Procedures; Conformance to Work Schedules, Assignments, <br />and instructionsrAppearance: Preparation and Presentation of Required Written <br />Information; Adaptability; Operation, Maintenance and Care of Equipment; <br />Relations with Citizens and the Community; Working Relationships and <br />Cooperation with other Officers; Civilian Staff and Supervisory Personnel; Use <br />Revised:9/30/98 9 <br />
