CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES— JUNE 17, 2002 <br />COUNCILS CONFERENCE ROOM <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M. <br />PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay, and Board Member, R. Giesser <br />ABSENT: Board Member, P. Martin <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Civil Service Secretary, A. Kilbane <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated April 15, 2002 have been submitted for <br />approval. <br />J. Thomay made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded by R. Giesser and <br />unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: There were nine (9) correspondences received and four (4) correspondences sent out. <br />J. Thomay made a motion to approve the correspondences. The motion was seconded by R. Giesesr and <br />unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: Commission needs to continue review of the Civil Service Handbook <br />Mr. Thomay pointed out that Mrs. Martin was not present and therefore the review of the handbook will be <br />tabled until the next meeting. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Commission needs to address requests from Capt. Wozniak to remove names from dispatchers list <br />Mr. Thomay pointed out that Dana Litzendorf and Stacy Dennison were contacted by the police department <br />regarding the dispatchers list. He added that Ms. Litzendorf picked up the investigation booklet and was <br />given a copy of the dispatcher contract. She indicated she would complete the forms, although she was not <br />certain she wanted to be a dispatcher. She was given until June 13, 2002 to return the material. At that <br />point, she called the department and said she was not interested in the position. Ms. Dennison was <br />contacted regarding the background investigation and she stated at that time she is no longer interested and <br />is presently employed by the City of Maple Heights as a dispatcher. <br />J. Thomay made a motion to remove Dana Litzendorf and Stacy Dennison from the dispatcher list. Mrs. <br />Giesser asked if a letter is sent to the individuals who are removed from our lists. Mrs. Kilbane confirmed <br />that a letter is sent from the Civil Service Office. R. Giesser seconded the motion. Unanimously approved. <br />The Complete Guide to Hiring Law Enforcement Officers - complementary copy sent by the office of Lt. <br />Governor Maureen O'Connor - Mr. Thomay acknowledged receipt of this book and confirmed that Mrs. <br />Giesser received a copy as well. <br />Mr. Thomay asked that Mrs. Kilbane check with Pat Martin on her preference for a vacation month. The <br />board is looking at taking either July or August for vacation. Mr. Thomay said as long as the hiring freeze <br />is on, they cannot begin any testing. He indicated he is inclined to begin the process for entry level testing <br />for firefighters before it runs out in October. He mentioned it takes 5-6 months to begin the whole process <br />because of all the notice requirements. Mr. Thomay pointed out the Mayor and Chief Bak should be made <br />aware of the situation. <br />1.
