CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MAY 17, 2004 <br />MINUTES <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairwoman R. Giesser, Board members M. Ubaldi and W. Hohmann. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Fire Chief Klecan and Civil Service <br />Secretary D. Rote. <br />Chairman Giesser reviewed that the meeting began at 7:00p.m. and comprised of a working session <br />reviewing rules and potential changes for the record. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated April 19 and 26, 2004 have been submitted for approval. <br />R. Giesser moved to approve the Civil Service minutes dated April 19 and 26, 2004 as written. <br />M. Ubaldi seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. <br />III. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />State report was released. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Continued discussion of the Police and Fire entry-level sections of the Civil Service Handbook. <br />The commission has been looking at the Civil Service Handbook to update those areas which deal <br />with entry-level exams. Before starting a testing cycle the commission would like to have all items <br />within the Handbook up to date. The commission will conduct a special meeting on May 24, 2004 <br />@ 7:00 p.m. to finalize updates and review those updates discussed during the working session. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />The commissioners will discuss the following items at the special meeting: <br />1. Wording for application packets needed <br />2. Wording for news paper ads <br />3. Testing companies to administer entry-level exam. <br />4. Discuss legislation for funds for testing process. <br />5. Corrections and updates to Civil Service Handbook finalization. <br />The commissioners felt that the restriction to only review changes to the Civil Service Handbook at <br />"regular " meetings impeded their ability to timely complete the requirements of updating the <br />handbook in a timely manor. <br />M. Ubaldi moved to amend Civil Service Handbook Chapter (1) Introduction Section (4) <br />paragraph (7) sentence (3) and sentence (6) the word "regular" will be stricken from both <br />sentences. W. Hohmann seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. <br />VI. ADJOURNMENT: <br />R.
