EXCERPT OF VISION REQUIREMENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE RULES AND REGULATION MANUAL <br />Section 3. Vision Standards: <br />A. The following vision standards apply to all Entry Level Police and Firefighter/Paramedic <br />applicants. <br />follows: <br />1. Fireman: Deficient functional color perception related to the job description. <br />2. Police: Deficiency in color perception of such a nature as to prompt and accurate <br />identification of the colors of standard traffic lights and normal objects, the final <br />standard shall be made by the Board of Consultants. <br />B. Visual Requirements for all Entry Level Police and Firefighter/Paramedic applicants are as <br />1. Visual Acuity - Corrected (with spectacles or contact lenses). Standard - 20/20 binocular (both <br />eyes open). Screening referral - less than 20/20 binocular or 20/40 or worse with either eye alone <br />must be referred for the confirmation that candidate meets binocular vision standards. <br />2. Visual Acuity - Un -corrected (no spectacles or contact lenses). Standard - 20/40 binocular. <br />Screening failure - less than 20/40 binocular. Screening referral 20/200 or worse with <br />either eye alone must be referred for confirmation that candidate meets binocular vision standard. <br />*See Contact Lens Waiver and/or Refraction Modification Waiver <br />3. Hyperopia. Standard - less than 2.00 D. (spherical equivalent) of hyperopia in either eye. <br />Screening referral - binocular visual acuity (un -corrected) which not decrease by at least <br />one full acuity line with +1.50D lenses. <br />4. Binocular Vision. Standard - clear, comfortable binocular vision with good stereopsis all normal <br />working distances and viewing angles with correction. Screening referral - stereo - acuity poorer <br />than 80" on Titmus test or equivalent; or distance phoria equal to or exceeding 5 eso or 5 exo; or <br />near phoria equal to or exceeding 6 eso or 10 exo. <br />Color Vision. Standard - normal or anomalous trichromacy (no filters may be used). <br />Screening referral - failure on a series of pseudoisochromatic plates. <br />Visual Fields. Standard - normal visual fields. <br />Screening failure - failure to meet perimetry standards listed: <br />Values <br />Temporal - 85 degrees <br />Superior -temporal - 51 degrees <br />Superior - 45 degrees <br />Superior -nasal - 48 degrees <br />Nasal - 54 degrees <br />Inferior -nasal - 48 degrees <br />Inferior - 64 degrees <br />Inferior -temporal - 80 degrees <br />Screening Referral - Failure on a field screener. <br />Pathology Standard <br />-no pathological conditions which impair or would eventually impair visual performance. <br />Screening referral - failure on ophthalmoscopic examination. <br />DO NOT RETURN THIS PAGE <br />PLEASE RETAIN FOR YOUR RECORDS <br />D <br />
