Sly <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL CAUCUS ROOM <br />MINUTES - MAY 219 2007 <br />7:00 P.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: Chairman M. Ubaldi called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. <br />PRESENT: M. Ubaldi, W. Hohmann, and K. Zolar <br />ALSO PRESENT: Firefighter Todd Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Kirkpatrick, Assistant Law Director B. <br />O'Malley, Human Resources Director C. Farver <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated April 16, 2007 and April 23, 2007 have been submitted for <br />approval. <br />Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. Mr. Hohmann seconded the <br />motion and unanimously approved. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />There were 16 items of correspondence received and 232 items of correspondence sent out by the <br />Civil Service Commission. <br />General discussion commenced regarding the Assistant Fire Chief vacancy, including the <br />examination process and notification. <br />A letter was sent to the Commission by Fire Chief Klecan regarding the entry-level applicant <br />certification. A general discussion followed regarding certification process; Civil Service Rule VIII <br />"Appointment From An Eligible List", Section 2 "Appointment Process, a and b; testing; <br />eligibility; interview and hiring process; appointing authority's responsibility; candidate <br />acceptability; rules regarding disqualification; candidate standing and number of candidates <br />required for certification; Civil Service Rule VII, Section 9 "Disqualification and Notice". <br />Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to certify three (3) names for the vacancy created by Firefighter <br />Weisbarth. The names are: Giles Selig, Christopher Holloway, and Joseph Wantz. Mr. <br />Hohmann seconded the motion and unanimously approved. <br />Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to request of the appointing authority to receive two (2) additional <br />names in light of the fact that the two (2) candidates remaining for consideration of the <br />currently open vacancy have been deemed in the majority of the Commission accepted as <br />unqualified in the opinion of the appointing authority. The respective request is made for the <br />removal of the candidates, Todd Skinner and Mark Carbone. Mr. Hohmann seconded the <br />motion and unanimously approved. <br />There will be a Building Inspector vacancy and the Safety Director will be looking for a provisional <br />appointment. Mr. Ubaldi indicated he would like to review the Building Inspector language. A <br />general discussion followed regarding Ramsey & Associates; testing dates; eligible list established <br />by September. <br />
