CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS <br />MINUTES — AUGUST 17, 2009 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: Chairman M. Ubaldi called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m. <br />PRESENT: M. Ubaldi and B. Hohmann <br />ALSO PRESENT: Human Resources Director C. Farver, Community Life Services Director J. <br />Dailey, Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Civil Service Secretary D. Eccleston <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated May 18, 2009 have been submitted for approval. <br />Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. Mr. Hohmann seconded the <br />motion and unanimously approved. <br />111. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />There were 2 items of correspondence received and no items of correspondence sent out by the <br />Civil Service Commission. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Rules and Regulations Handbook <br />The Chairman tabled the handbook. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Civil Service P.O. Box <br />A general discussion commenced regarding the need for the post office box. The main reason for <br />the post office box is security. Modem technologies such as email, fax provide that security. The <br />renewal time is May and the cost was $60 for 2009. <br />Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to relinquish the Civil Service post office box. Mr. Hohmann <br />seconded the motion and unanimously approved. <br />Abolishment of Custodial Supervisor Position at Springvale <br />The Commission has received documents from the Community Life Services director regarding the <br />abolishment of the Custodial Supervisor position at Springvale. A recommendation was made to <br />wait until the September meeting to make a final judgment. The notice to the employee, dated <br />August 13, 2009, would allow for an appeal. The employee has ten (10) days to appeal; the <br />Commission has thirty (30) days from receipt of the appeal to schedule a hearing. According to the <br />
