Ubaldi append the motion for the location of the written examination at St. Clarence Church
and the location for the Oral Assessment will be at North Olmsted Police Department.
Address Details for Police Sergeant Promotional Test
The Promotional Police Sergeant's written examination will be on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 10:00
AM and the Oral Assessment will be on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 9:00 AM, Passing score for the
written examination will be set at 70%; extra credit/seniority is in accordance with Rule III, Section
7 and tie score is pursuant to Rule IV, Section 3. In 2007 the weight was 75% for the written and
25% for the oral. Police Chief Wozniak previously noted that the book smarts of the Sergeants and
Lieutenant's was more important at that level. As you raise up the ranks the character or leadership
skills becomes more important and suggested when you have a higher rank you give more weight to
the assessment. A suggestion was made to give the written a weight of 60% and the oral assessment
40% because it is lower in rank but it is a little more common rather than having a.larger percentage
spread. Candidates for the oral assessment may not exceed six (6). The Commission does have a
means of drawing that line should there be a tie score and is believed that the Commission is
borrowing from entry -level's tie scores time of test completed. This issue was cleared when the
Commission held the last promotional safety force examination. The posting should be posted 30
days prior to the testing and that there should be a meeting between the Safety Director, Human
Resour-ees-Direetot -and-Po4i"-C–lti,ef-to-discuss-thy; references anebtiieJob-analysis-Ms Ramsey
met with Safety Director Thomas and the new Safety Director Ritenauer this afternoon and with
Human Resources Director Farver earlier this evening. The Commission will defer the selection of
resources to the Safety and Human Resources Director and also the Police Chief once Ms, Ramsey
has an opportunity to meet with him. There will be four (4) references. The notice should be
posted at the latest April 22"d.
Mr, Ubaldi made a motion to incorporate all details above for the Promotional Police
Sergeant's examination. Ms. Zolar seconded the motion and unanimously approved.
Ms. Ramsey indicated that her meetings with Safety and Human Resources had good input and
everyone sees things a little differently.
The Chairman indicated that with the upcoming Police Entry -Level exam, we should not skip our
next regular meeting.
V1. ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to adjourn at 8:19 PM. Ms. Zolar seconded
the motion and unanimously approved.
5 %l 7 /1-0
Michael Ubaldi, Civil Service Chairman Date Donna Eccleston, Civil Service Secretary
