CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL CAUCUS ROOM <br />MINUTES — May 15, 2017 <br />7:00 P.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: Chairman J. Barrett called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: J. Barrett, W. Brake & T. Smith <br />ALSO PRESENT: Human Resources Director M. Gallo, Asst. Law Director B. O'Malley, <br />Safety Director D. Glauner and Civil Service Secretary S. Berkley <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />Motion by Chairman Barrett, seconded by Commissioner Brake, that the minutes of the April 17, <br />2017 meeting be approved as received. <br />Motioned passed unanimously. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />There were 23 items of correspondence received and 57 items of correspondence sent out by the <br />Civil Service Commission. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Fleet Mechanic <br />General discussion commenced regarding the position and requirements of the Fleet Mechanic <br />Position. Director Glauner requested the Commission to consider making this position classified <br />non-competitive because there are tests for an EVT certification and ASE certifications available for <br />this position. Furthermore, ASE certifications are required pursuant to the job description. <br />Motion by Commissioner Brake, seconded by Chairman Barrett, to make the position of Fleet <br />Manager classified non-competitive under Rule IX Section 1(b). <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Secretary II Exam <br />General discussion commenced regarding the Non -Uniform Secretary II position. Director Glauner <br />and Gallo recommended that the Commission making this position classified non-competitive due <br />to the nature of a police secretary's job in the police department because peculiar and exceptional <br />qualifications would be to search prisoners, take a polygraph, HIPA laws, and leads requirements. <br />Motion by Commissioner Smith, seconded by Chairman Barrett, to make Non -Uniform Secretary II <br />classified non-competitive. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />
