PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MINUTES OF JULY 24, 2019
ROLL CALL
Mr. Malone called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers and led the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Present: Greg Malone, Dave Anderson, Paul Schumann, Julie Nader
Absent: Tom Patton, Darrick Matthews, Don Rerko
Staff: Planning and Development Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo -
Ackerman
Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to excuse the absences of Mr. Patton, Mr.
Matthews and Mr. Rerko, motion passed 4-0.
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to approve the Planning & Design
Commission minutes of July 10, 2019, motion passed 4-0.
NEW BUSINESS
19-14438; Albert Einstein Academy; 26855 Lorain Road
Representative: Susan Wohleber, Director of HR and Operations of Albert Einstein Academy,
25000 Country Club Boulevard, Suite 135, North Olmsted, OH
Ms. Lieber stated that K-12 schools are a conditional use in the B-3 District. Previously the
property was used temporarily by the North Olmsted City School District to house their middle
school while the new campus was under construction. A conditional use permit was granted in
2015; however, it expired on April 30, 2019. The applicant has provided information about
Albert Einstein Academies, a community school, which will take over the school facilities at St.
Richard. They anticipate serving about 200 students with staff of about 22. They are proposing
no exterior changes to the building or property. All vehicle and bus traffic will be maintained on
site during morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. The Commission should consider the
general conditional use standards in Chapter 1118. Staff has reviewed the required specific
conditional use standards for K-12 facilities and found the proposal to be compliant. Ms.
Wohleber said the school was created seven years ago and there are other campuses in
Lakewood, Westlake and Strongsville. They are stable financially and looking forward to many
years in this new location.
Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Ms. Nader, to approve the conditional use permit for a
school in the B-3 General Business district for 19-14438; Albert Einstein Academy; 26855
Lorain Road, motion passed 4-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
