goal of being a tree city again. It will be colorful and allows for places for the public to sit and
enjoy it. Keith thought it had good appeal for passersby and would grab the attention of the
public visiting Springvale and the golf course. He appreciated that it is very customizable and is
solar -powered. Jackie thought the artist put a lot of thought into the piece and liked that it is
progressive. Kim said the next step is the committee meeting with the artist at the beginning of
June to finalize the artwork details. Legislation is before City Council to discuss the project
budget. $50,000 was awarded by Cuyahoga County and the committee has decreased the city
contribution from $35,000 to $10,000. The City Engineer has generously donated his time for the
park plans and there are community members who have donated money to help offset the city's
costs. The project will include landscaping and a pathway to the public art piece. To reduce
costs, streetscape banners will be installed and a ground sign can be installed at a later time.
Bryan was concerned about damage to the public art, Keith said it will be made of durable
materials. Sue added that the artist designed the piece with vandalism in mind.
Veterans Art Gallery
Nicole suggested changing the event to a virtual art gallery since the future of large gatherings is
unknown. This would provide an opportunity for veterans to share their work and experiences
while not committing to a large event. An interactive gallery can be created with the artwork to
simulate walking into an art gallery. Leah and Keith liked the format. Leah asked how other
forms of art could be incorporated, Nicole will look into ways to include videos if they are
submitted. Keith thought this could be used for the Mayor's Art Show and be used as a way to
track what the audience is interested in. Sue thought it would be more accessible to the public
also. Kim suggested requesting the artists submit the photos of their artwork to be included in the
virtual gallery. Keith suggested including a warning if some of the artwork is more graphic, if
needed. Bryan thought it could generate interest and excitement in the program. Nicole will work
on the Call for Artists to send out to the community. The deadline for the submissions can be
more flexible since there will not be an in-person event. Nicole will look into size limitations for
the virtual gallery and what the best way to share the presentation would be.
Wishing Tree
Jackie described an idea she had seen where people wrote their wishes or ideas on ribbons that
were then tied to a tree or a fence. Leah said a similar thing was done at her daughter's school
and it was well-received. It would inspire hope and spread happiness. Jackie suggested it could
be done on something else so it can be transported to different locations. Jackie added that a live
tree should not be used because they can be damaged. Kim thought it could be a high impact
project for low cost. Jackie, Sue and Leah volunteered to be on a committee to determine what
format, materials and locations should be used.
Scavenger Hunt
Stephanie thought a Google Doc could be set up with clues about different locations and families
could take photos of the locations and add them to the document. She was unsure what the
incentives would be with a decreased budget or if it could be done with the gatherings
restrictions. Kim thought families would be interested in doing it without much incentive. Leah
suggested sharing the photos on the website or on social media. Nicole suggested having open
ended prompts for people to submit photos of, such as "something that makes you proud," which
could be used as a Facebook post. Stephanie, Bryan and Janelle volunteered to be on a
coordinating committee.
