that the electronic signage was still proposed. Ms. Schuler asked if anything had been received
from the neighborhood, staff had not received any input about the project.
Mr. Warren did not think the building requirements should apply to signage. He thought plastic
should not be permitted either. Mr. Neville said signage is part of the streetscape and also needs
to comply with the building standards. Mr. Kearney thought the church has been good neighbors
and did not think they are trying to violate any of the rules. The church is trying to establish a
better way to publicize their events without risking the safety of their employees. Ms. Lieber said
if the sign is approved by the Landmarks Commission, a variance would be required. In order to
get a variance, the applicants must present a practical difficulty for the digital sign element which
may be a challenge.
Ms. Williams thought most of their publicity comes from vehicle traffic going by, not foot
traffic, so an electronic sign would get more attention. Mr. Neville echoed the sentiments of the church helping get the property
landmarked and expressed gratitude for the church's help with past Commission events. Mr.
Beeman asked if the electronic sign is not permitted, would a changeable sign then be permitted
then. Mr. Neville asked to amend the motion to allow a changeable type face without further
commission review. Ms. Lieber said the changeable typeface is permitted by code.
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowski, to approve a Certificate of
Appropriateness for 20-16508; North Olmsted Universalist Church; 5050 Porter Road,
without the electronic message area but allowing a manually changeable sign face in its
place, motion passed 7-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
North Olmsted: Remember When?
Progress has been made on the social media posts for the week of August 20. The themes have
been modified to cover housing and development, transportation, important women, business and
retail, schools, restaurants and Homecoming and Field Day.
Heritage Home Program
The virtual information session for North Olmsted residents will be on September 21 S`
Records
Mr. Dubowski thought there was a good variety of signs from old business in North Olmsted and
were worth keeping. Ms. Lieber suggested keeping the photos if the Commission would like to
