The
proposed landmark needs to meet at least two of the four requirements listed in Section
165.05(a). The nomination report includes photos and briefly explains that the Ballroom would
qualify for local landmark status based on the first and fourth criteria. Resources for the report
were Jim Dubelko's article from the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History and the Ohio Historical
Marker. Ms. Egan -Reeves agreed that the Ballroom would qualify for landmark status best with
those two categories, Mr. Dubowski agreed. Ms. Egan -Reeves said the second criteria could also
apply because of the large impact of the Ballroom on the community in the 1920s. Mr. Neville
added that the third criteria could be met as well, but the first and fourth criteria work the best.
Ms. Lieber suggested the final report include more rationale for the nomination meeting all of the
criteria if needed. Ms. Egan -Reeves suggested reaching out to the community to see if they have
additional photos to use for the report. Ms. Lieber thought the report should include the recent
history of the site, including its construction, additions and the people associated with it, Mr.
Neville agreed. Ms. Egan -Reeves, Mr. Neville and Ms. Schuler volunteered to be on the research
committee.
Ms. Egan -Reeves moved, seconded by Ms. Schuler, to accept the nomination of Springvale
Ballroom for landmark designation study and evaluation, motion passed 6-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
Certificates of Appropriateness
