Mr. Dubowski moved, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to approve the Certificate of
Appropriateness for rebuilding the garage for 21-20347; William Freed; 27615 Butternut
Ridge Road, motion passed 5-0.
Memorial Proiect
Ms. Lieber suggested collecting information about local memorial installations of trees, benches,
etc., for our future knowledge. It would be helpful to know who the people were or why there
was a memorial installed for them. The database could be kept on the city website and there
could be a sign or QR code by the memorial for visitors to use. Mr. Neville liked that idea and
added that there was a stone behind the high school that could be included if it is still there. Mr.
Schumann suggested sharing a Facebook post to ask the community which memorials are around
and to see what they know about thein to help build the database. If the families are interested, a
video could be linked to the database to share stories about the person. Memorial benches and
trees have recently been added to the park so records should be available for that. Ms. Egan -
Reeves suggested asking a SITES student to help collect data for the project.
Landmark Curiosity Kits
Ms. Rambo -Ackerman suggested creating kits or packets as a way for families to learn about the
local landmark properties and their significance. The kits could include a summary of the
significance of the property and some discussion questions and activity or craft for families to do
together. Mr. Gearhart described a project that a local teacher did. They took five photos from
around the community and asked the kids to think about where they were in the community and
why they were important. He also suggested including how the families can learn more by
visiting Frostville or the landmark itself. Mr. Neville suggested inviting the families to Frostville
to talk about the artifacts more. Staff will come up with a pilot kit to see how it turns out.
Frostville has artifacts from Charles Seltzer and the Parker Ranch that could be good sites to start
with.
OLD BUSINESS
Springvale Ballroom Landmark Designation
The committee continues to gather information from as many primary resources as possible. The
architect who worked on the ballroom and pavilion improvement projects at Springvale gave the
committee information about the architectural style and significance of the building. An
interview with Bonnie .DeLorenzo is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of October. Mr.
Neville will ask the committee which resources they would like requested from Mr. Dubelko.
COMMUNICATIONS
Ordinance 2021-21 Electronic Meetings
Ms. Lieber said City Council approved updated rules for electronic meetings.
