NEW BUSINESS
2022 Activity Planning
Kim suggested having the Party in the Park again since it was a well -attended outdoor event that
is relatively easy to plan. There may an opportunity to incorporate temporary art or art
demonstrations into the event. The Commission will need to make sure the additional art
component will be compatible with the light levels at dusk. Leah suggested doing a community
mural and Sue added that using neon paint with black lights may be a different twist. The group
agreed to host the event at the end of July again.
Earth Fair is a bigger community event that could be revisited. It is more difficult to plan and has
strayed from the original intent. Kim suggested using Arbor Day and Earth Day as inspiration for
another art -related activity. This could also meet the city's Arbor Day celebration needed for the
Tree City USA recognition. Susan noticed that recycling was a major theme in the Scholastic art
contest she helped judge recently. Leah and Ken thought it could be a good opportunity to
partner with the schools and showcase the younger students, specifically targeting the middle
school. Leah offered to reach out to the middle school art teachers to see if they would be
interested in incorporating an environmental themed gallery into their work plan.
Some other potential events were discussed. Ken suggested trying to utilize the Performing Arts
Center at the High School more. It was suggested that a variety show or "North Olmsted's Got
Talent" show could be done in that space. Ken volunteered to reach out to the schools to see if it
could be used and Kim will reach out to her contacts as well. It may be an opportunity for the
schools to generate some revenue using the space. Leah suggested doing a cultural event to help
include our city's diverse population. Members agreed that hosting a food related event with
complementary music could be planned. Kim recommended finding out what Parks & Rec is
planning so the events can be spaced out. Leah thought that letting Parks & Rec handle some of
the events held in the park would allow the Commission to do some of the smaller art -specific
projects. A film festival featuring local films could be offered. A traveling or temporary art
display could be done at the Mall or another location. Sue suggested offering a commission or
prize for the work to make it worth the artists' effort.
2022 Mayor's Art Show
The tentative event date is March 2. The NOHS art teachers liked the live gallery at Old Town
Hall and the virtual event so they would like to do a hybrid event. Commission members will be
needed to set up the art and help decide on the extras for the event.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
UhR lski-Davis, Vice Chair
Approved: A N9I 22
Nicole Rambo -Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
