PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSION CITY OF' NORTH OLMSTED MINUTES OF AUGUST 24, 2022 ROLL CALL Ms. Nader called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm via online public meeting. Present: Julie Nader. Administrative Assistant Kristine Jones REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES Ms. Nader stated that she would like to table the minutes from June 22, 2022. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: SPRINGVALE BALLROOM LANDMARK DESIGNATION The Landmarks Commission Requests the Planning and Design Commission to provide a written statement concerning its recommendation as it relates to the master plan of the City. per codified ordinance 165.05. Representative: Sara Egan-Reeves, North Olmsted City Landmarks Commission. Ms. Sara Egan-Reeves. with the City of North Olmsted's Landmarks Commission presented a landmark designation proposal. She explained that in 2023 Springvale Ballroom will he celebrating its 100'^ anniversary and the North Olmsted Landmarks Commission is recommending that the City of North Olmsted designate this venue as an official city landmark. In order to designate Springvale Ballroom as a landmark evidence needs to he presented in accordance with codified ordinance 165.05 Designation of Landmarks. In 165.05 it states that two or more of the requirements must he met. Ms. Reeves referenced her proposal brochure and stated that they believe Springvale Ballroom meets designation requirements one and four from section 165.05. Section 165.05 Designation of Landmarks A. A building or other structure may he designated by the Commission as a landmark if the Commission determines_on the basis of the ec idence before it. that the building or other structure meets two or more of the following criteria: I. It has character. interest or value. as part of the development heritage or cultural characteristics of the City. State or nation: 2. It is the site of a historic event with an effect upon society: It is identified with a person or group of persons who had some influence on society: or 4 It exemplifies the cultural, political, economic. social or historic heritage of the community.
