BUILDING & ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MEETING MINUTES FOR JANUARY 6, 2025 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Papotto called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. in Council Chambers. <br />Present: Bob Papotto, Ralph Mackey, Roxana Galanteanu, Mike Kovach <br />Staff. Building Coordinator Katie Seeley, Director Max Upton, Assistant Law Director Bryan <br />O'Malley, Administrative Assistant Lyn Wilson; Inspector Paul Barker <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />The meeting minutes of November 4t' and December 2nd, 2024 were submitted for approval. <br />All in favor, none opposed <br />REORGANIZATION <br />Mr. Kovach was nominated as Chairperson for year 2025; he accepted. Mr. Papotto was <br />nominated as Vice Chairperson; he accepted. <br />RESIDENTIAL APPEALS AND REQUESTS <br />207-2024; Lori Moran; 5079 Porter Rd. <br />Mr. Mackey recused himself from hearing this case due to a professional relationship. He did not <br />stay in Council Chambers to hear or vote on this matter. <br />Representatives: Lori Moran and Richard Moran; Jody Warner 5099 Porter <br />A variance request was made to appeal the building commissioner's decision regarding a home <br />occupation violation. The applicant was instructed to cease using the land and converted garage <br />for a dog grooming facility by December 19, 2024. The applicant sought an extension to March <br />19, 2025. <br />The speaker previously lived on Dover Center Road and sold the property last year. Lori, who <br />had operated a dog grooming salon out of the speaker's attached garage for 22 years, was <br />attempting to relocate the business to her new home in North Olmstead. Neither of them were <br />aware of any permit requirements for operating the business. After being informed otherwise, <br />they acknowledged the issue and were now seeking an extension. The original deadline to vacate <br />the operation was December 19, but they requested an extension until March 19 to allow Lori <br />time to relocate the business. They had recently discussed leasing a property near a pizza shop on <br />Mill and Dover Center Road. <br />The speaker explained being in a difficult situation after running a dog grooming business for 22 <br />years without issues.
