The previous garage will be demolished. The application
was tabled at the November 14th meeting due to members' questions about the proposal. Ms.
Parsipour summarized the questions as follows:why the applicant wants to destroy the old garage
and why the placement of the new garage would be different.
Ms. Clark indicated that the old garage must be demolished since it is old and falling down. She
went on to say that they had it fixed two or three times. The bottom six inches or so of the side
studs and sidewalls had rusted away the last time it was renovated roughly ten years ago. She just decided they needed to move into a new garage because the old
one was breaking apart. It's an old garage with a flat roof.It was originally an 18 by 18-foot garage,
but they've added a two-foot piece on the front to make it big enough for the newer cars.
In response to the second question, she explained that the footprint of the old garage is not the
same as the footprint of the new garage. Because the existing garage was just three feet from the
property line, the new one must be five feet.To fulfill the building code, she would have to move
it a few feet. And the door to her garage is on the side of it for some reason,so when she pulls into
her driveway, she has to make a right angle go into the garage. And because she only has a 50-foot
lot, she has to pull forward and back up, pull ahead and then back in,just to get into the garage.
One of the reasons it's challenging is that she had to install the center support up there to keep the
