NORTH OLMSTED LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />May 21, 1987 Meeting <br />Members Present: Sharon Fleming, Chairperson, Betty Lord, Lois <br />Van Auken, Russ Bierman Bob Perry and Mike Patton <br />The Meeting was called to order at 8:08pm by The Chairperson. <br />The minutes of._the:April meeting.were read and approved. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />BUTTERNUT HISTORIC DISTRICT SIGNS. The wooden signs that <br />are being.constructed by Don Bauer of Bay Crafters wil be ready <br />sometime in late June. <br />The Metal Street signs should also be ready about the same <br />time. <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANT. Progress on old Town Hall <br />improvements seem to have come to a standstill. Lois Van Auken <br />will contact Don Copeland to see if there is any Community Deve- <br />lopment-money availabl-e for work on OLD TOWN HALL. <br />DECLARATORY JUDGMENT SUIT. Developers Diversified (BART <br />WOLSTEIN) has filed a Declarator.y•'Judgment suit against the city <br />in order to get the area on New Columbia and behind Butternut': <br />Ridge Road re-Zoned. The City=s position is that the property <br />is best zoned for a single family dwelling units. Diversified <br />wants to place a shopping center, motel and office building in <br />the area. Mr. Gareau, the city Law Director has reported that <br />Diversified is unlikely to succeed in their suit, and even if they <br />do succeed it should not cause a domino effect which would result <br />in the rezoning of Butternut. Ridge Road. Landmarks will provide <br />Mr. Gareau with information on the Butternut Road Historic District. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />PUBLIC RELATIONS ON THE BUTTERNUT ROAD HISTORIC DISTRICT. <br />The Landmarks Commission discussed ways of celebrating the erection <br />of the Historic District signs. It was suggested that the L.C. <br />schedule the sign erection to coincide with either the 4th, of <br />July, or the North .:Olmsted'==Homecoming celebration. It was sugg- <br />ested that the L.C. have an open house at Old.Town Hall and <br />invite residents of Butternut Ridge Road and any other interested <br />persons. It was also suggested that L.C. try to get a half page <br />narative article on the Butternut Ridge Historic District in .the <br />Homecoming Bulletin. <br />At 9:00pm the meeting was properly adjourned <br />Chairperson <br />Secretary
