NEW BUSINESS;
Review of the _1989 Ohio Basic Building Code.
Building Commissioner Conway advised that the changes presented are the 1989
revisions to the Ohio Basic Building Code„, He explained that these are the
codes regulating commerical structures which are adopted by the State every
three years, and which the city adopts in its entirety. He pointed out that
the city can pass ordinances that are more restrictive and those would apply
if they are not in conflict with the State code, He explained that these
codes are getting more general in that they frequently refer to other specific
standards which are usually more current. Mr. Schulz stated that these are
minimum codes and questioned if the Board should adopt them blindly. Mr. Conway
expla.ined that since the Building Department is State certified, the city must
adopt the code, but it can be modified later. He further- explained that the
code has been expanded from 25 chapters to 32, and he has attended seminars
explaining the proposed changes. R, Burk moved to adont the 1989 OBBC based
on the 1987 9B4E code, seconded by B.
