CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARCHITECTUR.AL BOARD OF REVIEW
MINUTES - SEPTIIMBER 18,1991
I. ROLL CALL:
Acting Chairman Zergott called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
Present: T. Gallagher, Y. Sohn, and B. Zergott.
Absent: M. Case
Also Present: Clerk of Commissions Oring.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINCITES :
T. Gallagher moved to approve the minutes of July 17, 1991 as they stand,
seconded by B. Zergott, and unanimously approved.
III. SIGNS:
No items.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
No items.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
North Olmsted High School, 5755 Burns Road.
Proposal to reconstruct entrance and administration area of building.
Mr. Clancy, and Mr. Highland, representing North Olmsted Schools, explained
that this area of the building had to be completely demolished and this
re-construction has enabled them to eliminate the two entrances and the canopy
which had been a maintenance problem. Mr. Clancy introduced Mr. Lesko, the
architect, who explained the plans and presented a model of the proposed
central Conair atriun entrance which will be a Lorain glass tinted blue green
with natural aluminun frames and concrete columns, the roof will be an energy
efficient reflective glass, the fascia will be an exterior insulating and
finish system in a gray similar to the Dryvit Prairie Gray to match the
Blenden Brick #8530 which has been used in the other areas damaged by the
fire. It was clarified that this will be built on the existing foundation. Mr.
Sohn suggested that a small skylight be installed extending from the atriun to
the court yard. Mr. Clancy and Mr. Lesko, agreed this would be an excellent
idea especially since it would be over the open office area and would split
the building. They would be willing to do this if the budget would permit. Mr.
Gallagher suggested that the new 10 foot high pole lights which are to be
metal ha.llite could be the new clear high pressure sodium which would be less
expensive, and would not darken the building the way the yellow sodiun would.
It was determined that from the face of the window wall to the face of the
columns, in some instances, was only about 6 inches apart which Mr. Sohn
believed was too tight. He suggested that the columns should be at least 1
foot, 6 inches away from the glass, . and also suggested that these concrete
columns be white for contrast. The roof top units will be set back, but Mr.
Sohn was concerned that they might be visible since the parapet is only about
1 foot high. After some discussion, it was decided that these tmits could be
painted to match the gray dryvit-like material in order to blend in. Regarding
the landscaping, Mr. Zergott suggested that they eliminate the grass, curve
the area with 3 levels of landscaping using taxus closer to the building,
1
