J. a -4 <br />r <br />CITY OF NORTEI OLMSTED <br />BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS <br />MINUTES-SEPTIIKBIIt 23, 1992 <br />Chairman Gomersall called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br />Present: B. Grace, T. Koberna, J. Maloney, W. Purper, and R. Gomersall. <br />Mr. Koberna, a new member, had been sworn in by Mayor Boyle previously. <br />Also Present: Law Director Gareau, Building Commissioner Conway and Clerk of <br />Commissions Oring. <br />B. Grace moved to accept the minutes of the August 5, 1992 meeting, seconded by <br />J. Maloney, and unanimously approved. <br />Chairman Gomersall advised those present that each request will be judged on the <br />physical situation peculiar to itself, and no judgesnent is to be considered a <br />general policy effecting properties or like situations elsewhere. <br />Mr. Gomersall further stated that request ntmiber 9 would be heard first. <br />9. Delores LaBarge, 5430 Sunset Oval. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 2 foot 6 inch variance for height of <br />shed. Violation of Ord. 1135.02(d)3. <br />Chairman Gomersall called a11 interested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to Mr. and Mrs. LaBarge. Mrs. LaBarge explained that her husband is <br />a veteran and a paraplegic. Since the government will be cutting much of his <br />medical aid including the prosthetics and supplies that he needs, she would like <br />to store the supplies that they are getting now for the future. The members had <br />no problem with the request. J. Maloney moved to grant Delores LaBarge, 5430 <br />Sunset Oval the request for a 2 foot 6 inch variance for the height of a shed, <br />seconded by B. Grace, and unanimously approved. Variance granted. <br />1. First Nationwide Bank, 26187 Lorain. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request vaxiance for second wall sign, request <br />34.00 square foot variance for maximLUn sign area allowed for a building; request <br />variance to install sign an existing pole (pole signs are prohibited); request 56 <br />square foot variance for total sign area allowed for a business use. Violation of <br />Ord. 90-125, Sections.1163.12(a); 1163.11(b); 1163.22(a); and 1163.11(a). <br />Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to Mr. Holenbeck, sign contractor. Mr. Gomersall pointed out that <br />the pole sign had been changed already. Mr. Holenbeck responded that an out of <br />town contractor installed the sign without contacting the city. His company now <br />wants to install another sign with permits. They have made the bank aware that <br />the pole sign would ha.ve to be removed in 1998. The members had no problem. Tal.- <br />Purper moved to grant the requests of First Nationwide Bank, 26187 Lorain, for?a <br />variance for a second wall sign; for a 34 square foot variance for maximum sign <br />area allowed for a building; a variance to install sign on existing pole (it will <br />be noted that pole signs are prohibited); and a 56 square foot variance for total <br />sigp area allowed for a business use, with the notation that the variance for all <br />non-conforming signs will expire January 1, 1998, seconded by J. Maloney, and <br />unanimously approved. Variances granted. <br />2. Bill and Amy Roff, 3410 Dawn Dr. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 196 square foot variance to install pool <br />which will exceed the allowed 20% coverage of the rear yard. Violation of Ord. <br />90-125, Section 1135.02(d)2.
