CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD
MINTJTES - JULY 16, 1997
I. ROLL CALL:
Chairman Zergott called the meeting to order at 5:40 P.M.
Present: B. Zergott and T. Liggett
Absent: T. Gallagher, S. Krieger, and M. Yager
Also Present: Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk and Clerk of Commissions Oring.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIINUTES:
B. Zergott moved to approve the minutes of June 18,.1997, seconded by T. Liggett, and unanimously
approved.
III. SIGNS:
1) Moore's the Suit People, 26324 Lorain Road.
Logo on wall sign.
Mr. Kirkpatrick, sign contractor, presented the proposal for two sets of channel letters in blue and red
and a blue and beige logo. There will also be a ground sign, and a small directional sign to d.irect.
customers to the parking in the xear which was not originally presented. One wall sign conforms to
code, the second one will have to go to board of zoning appeaLs. Originally there was to be a window
sign, wluch was not legal; but he does not think Moore's will insist on keeping it. He clarii'ied that this
section of the window was to be blocked off to accommodate dressing rooms. There is a brick
foundation for the ground sign. It was clarified'that this building is located between Arby's and Burger
King. Mr. Liggett has no problem with the logo because it is compatible with the sign. He does not
believe that the sign on the side is necessary since it is blocked by Burger King. Mr. Kirkpatrick stated
that this would be visible to the eastbound traffic on Lorain Road. Mr. Zergott and Mr. Liggett did not
believe that the side sign was necessary because the ground sign would be visble from Lorain Road.
Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk advised that. the monument sign would be too high for a
ground sign -and would be considered a pylon sign, but it would not be in the right location for a pylon
sign. He suggested that they put individual.letters on the masonry wa1L Mr. Liggett would prefer that
they remove some of the masonry wall so they can fit the sign on top or suggested that they slipped a
two sided sign over the wall, Mr. Kirkpatrick stated t$at there is a brick lid which extends out further
and this would put the sign at grou.nd leveL Mr. Liggett stated it would not be hard to take some of the
bricks ofFthe foundation so the sign would conform.
T. Liggett moved to accept the Moore's, the Suit People, 26324 Lorain Road, sign proposal with the
following exceptions: the sign on the side of the building should be removed; the ground mounted sign
on front be lowered. to become a ground mounted sign either by removing the masonry or by applying
the signs to the side of the masonry wall, since as it is presented it would require a variance. There is no
problem with the directional sign.. Also, if they want to keep the window vinyl graphic this board would
recommend to board of zoning appeals that a variance not be granted. The motion was vinyl seconded
by B. Zergott, and unanimously approved.
Mr. Rymarczyk advised that the directional sign had to be 3'feet from grade. He was also advised that
Mr. Kirkpatrick could apply to the board of zoning appeals for the second wall sign. . -
