MINUTES OF LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />MEETING OF JULY 21, 1983 <br />Yresent: Vice Chairman Marlene Orzechowski, Dale Wunderle, Lois Van <br />Auken, Councilman Dwayne Woerpel, Gloria Sell, Julia Brown. <br />Chairman Betty Lord arrived 8:20 p.m, <br />Also present: Councilman Dean McKay, Elaine Freed <br />Meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Marlene Orzechowski at 8:05 p.m. <br />Minutes-of Landmarks meetings of May 19, June 16 and June 20, 1983, approved <br />as submitted. <br />First item:. to be discussed was the request of payment to the secretary <br />for the first quarter of 1983 in the amount of $90. Dwayne Woerpel <br />reported Finance Committee of council recommended non-payment of this <br />request, and Ordinance be changed. Copy of Ordinance 83-96 amending <br />Section 165.03 of Chapter 165 "Landmarks Commission" distributed to <br />members. Councilman Dean McKay advised he will ask for an amendment, <br />stating that the secretary should be paid the same compensation as <br />secretaries to other boards and that the secretary should be paid <br />whether or not they are a member of the commission. <br />TOWN HALL: Letter dated June 23, 1983, from Mr. Robert C. Gaede which <br />was a proposal for services. Dwayne Woerpel reported on the meeting with <br />the mayor. Mayor will meet with Mr. Gaede soon to negotiate the agree- <br />ment for Town Hall restoration program. Thereafter Mr. Gaede will be <br />basically dealing with the Landmarks Commission. <br />CORRESPONDENCE: Preservation News, Renewal from National Trust and <br />letter of refusal from Ohio Historic Preservation Office, also material <br />for resubmitting in 1984. <br />H.B.R.P. Mrs. Elaine Freed of 27615 Butternut Ridge Road was introduced. <br />She advised the commission that a.r-number of the Butternut Ridge Road <br />residents are interested in establishing a historic district on Butternut. <br />They were encouraged to do so. To possibly generate more interest the <br />Landmarks Commission will issue a letter to the Butternut residents to <br />be distributed along with a flyer regarding the program at the North <br />Olmsted Library on Tuesday, August 2nd, by Tim Barrett of the Cuyahoga <br />County Archives office <br />Mrs. Freed produced a copy of a booklet entitled "Village of <br />North Olmsted, An Opportunity in Real Estate". This was published by <br />the A. B. Smythe Company. Dale Wunderle made a motion, and seconded, <br />that we acquire a copy of this booklet and make ten copies, one for <br />each member. Motion was unanimously approved. <br />SITE MARKER: No further word from the Service Director on the Butter- <br />nut Ridge site marker. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1) Next landmark, 2) Barton Road church, further <br />research, 3) Meet with Mr. Sadler of Elyria, 4) Pictures from Mr. <br />George Dietrich 331-1929. <br />There will be no scheduled meeting for the month of August. <br />Meeting was adjourned at 10:40 p.m.
