LANDIVIARKS COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MINUTES OF DECEMBER 10, 2012
ROLL CALL
Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: Paul Schumann, David Neville, Albert Richner, Tom Dubowski, Jim Morse, Dale
Thomas, Julie Nader, Maryellen Davis
Absent: Don Rerko
Staff: Director of Planning and Development Kimberly Wenger, Clerk of Commissions
Donna Rote
REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Neville moved, seconded by Mr. Morse, to approve the November 12, 2012 minutes as
varitten which passed 8-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Designation of Landmarks
• 4302 Porter Road
• 30095 Lorain Road
Mr. Schumann reviewed the Porter Road documents. Mr. Richner said the majority of the
information on the Knight family was obtained via the internet and Mr. Thomas said he obtained
his information at Frostville Museum. Mr. Neville said he would use all documents submitted to
compose a draft report. The clerk was asked to provide Mr. Neville with a copy of all documents
pertaining to the Porter Road home.
Mr. Morse reviewed documentation gathered on Charles Alden Seltzer and noted Charles Seltzer
accomplished so much it's hard to narrow the topics to research. Some of his accomplishments
consist of being an author, the Mayor of North Olmsted, creating the Municipal Bus Line and
taking on the electric and phone companies of the time so the residents of the city could have
better service.
Ms. Wenger said she was contacted by the schools regarding the middle school annex and the
vacant home west of the school which they own. She said in 2009 the school board met with
Landmarks to seek a certificate of appropriateness to demolish both structures. At the request of
the Commission, the schools agreed to look into ways in which elements of the structures could
be preserved and create a detailed development plan. The commission's last meeting with the
board of education was November of 2009 at which time they tabled the request. The clerk was
asked to provide members copies of documents pertaining to the 2009 Commission meetings.
