The Commission brainstormed ideas for
how to make future Tree Lighting events at Springvale more successful. The group ultimately
determined that Springvale Ballroom might not be best suited for the event. Instead,
indoor/outdoor space at North Olmsted Park, the Community Cabin and Senior Center could
create a better open house feel. Trees in the park could be decorated. Indoor and outdoor food
stations could be set up by local restaurants. Kids craft tables could be interspersed inside along
with vendor tables selling holiday wares. Fewer feature performances may be involved. Santa
could arrive on a fire truck. Ms. Strippy and Ms. Wenger will make contact with the Senior
Center Administrator to discuss the idea and put a hold on the date for the facilities for
December 1, 2014.
Summer in the City
Mr. Wahl will collect information from all Commission members on possible musicians for the
2014 Summer in the City music series and put them into a spreadsheet. At the Commission's
January meeting, the group can listen to samples, evaluate pricing, and create a short list of the
top four bands to slot into the three available Sundays. Once confirmed, this schedule can be
used to solicit possible sponsors. To round out the event, an ice cream vendor may be
approached and perhaps another business might sell hot dogs or other summer fare. The Band
and Orchestra Boosters have sold corn on the cob at other summer events. Promotional materials
could be considered such as bubbles or Frisbees which carry the Summer in the City logo.
Bubbles would be less likely to cause injury or annoyance to attendees.
