PLANNING & DESIGN COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
1VIINUTES FOR JUNE 2, 2014
ROLL CALL
Chairman Malone'called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. in Council Chambers and led the
Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: Greg Malone, Rosemary Wallcer, Don Rerko, David Anderson
Absent: Paul Schumann, Ralph Bohlmann, Julie Nader
Staff: Assistant Law Director Bryan O'Malley, Assistant Building Commissioner Daniel
Russell, Clerk of Commissions Donna Rote
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Ms. Walker, to approve the Planning & 1)esign
Commission minutes of Apri123, 2014, which passed 4-0.
NEW BUSINESS
CMS14-07: Scrambler Marie's; 26437 Great Northern Plaza
Representative: Richard Buerk
Mr. Malone referred to the Planning Director's report which outlined the fagade changes to the
west end of the Great Northern Plazas for Scrambler Marie's. Changes include adding a cream
colored EIFS parapet wall bump up at the corner of the plaza, adding windows and a door to the
west wall and replacing the storefront system. Existing individual canopies will be removed and
replaced with one continuous canopy colored Scrambler Marie green.
Mr. Rerko questioned the green canopy chosen as it seemed to diminish the Scramble Marie sign.
He would prefer the black canopy. and gray stucco which would showcase the wall sign. Mr. Buerk.
said the fagade and canopy colors were chosen to blend into the plaza and match the wall sign.
Commissioners felt the black canopy would blend into the plaza more and said approval would be
based on the use of a black canopy. Mr. Buerk said he would follow the recommendation. Mr.
Rerlco asked that a masonry pilaster be added to the front of the building in line with the new pop up
southeast corner which would give the new facade a stronger appearance. Mr. Malone asked if the
new glass extended to the ground as shown in the plans and Mr. Buerlc said there was no plan to
remove any briclc along the front of the building.
Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Rerko, to approve CMS14-07: Scrambler
Marie's of 26437 Great Northern Plaza with the following conditions:
1. A matching masonry pilaster will be placed below the east end of the new pop up
which includes the sign.
2. The awning is to be black not green.
Motion passed 4-0.
