CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF OCTOBER 19, 2016
6:30PM
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Bill Brake, Stephanie Procter, JoAnn DePolo, Leah Rogalski Davis, Lauren Suter,
Jackie Anderson, Laura Simna
Absent: Jeff Campbell, Annie Kilbane, Sue. Collander,
Staff: Planner James Aspery
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Jackie moved to approve the Arts Commission minutes of September 21, 2016 which passed
unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
North Olmsted Through the Years
Lauren updated the group on the project, stating that she has a few more videos in progress
before the project is finished. Jackie added that the posts were very well-received, and looks
forward to seeing the upcoming posts when she is able.
NEW/ONGOING BUSINESS
North Olmsted Noel
Members provided updates on their respective areas. Jackie confirmed that the group can set up
any time after 3PM on Friday 12/2- the group will determine a preferred time at the next
meeting. James confirmed that the reindeer contract is still on and that "Santa Paul" has been
booked by Annie from 4-5PM. James will purchase candy canes and arrange for the Rec
Center's chair to be moved to the Cabin no later than Friday morning 12/2. Leah confirmed that
there are five food vendors booked: the Bom, Wok-N-Roll, Crooked Kettle, Breadheads, and
Homemade by Hannah cupcakes. Bill asked about an event site plan, with James confirming that
he will provide a layout at the next meeting. JoAnn was assigned to the hot chocolate station
with Sue, who will receive 5-6 air pots on loan from the Brake family. Lauren confirmed that the
crafts were decided with James, who will be ordering them this coming week. They will be the
same overall composition as in previous years, but updated so they aren't a repeat.
James confirmed that he is meeting with Stephy from Rec within the next week to discuss
outdoor games. Regarding the bonfire, it was confirmed that Service Department will dig the fire
pit and collect junk pallets. James will notify and remind the Fire Department to extinguish the
fire after SPM. Signage and advertising was discussed, with JoAnn suggesting that the
Commission create some sort of unique stamp or sticker to provide the event with an identity.
The group agreed that was a smart idea for branding, so Lauren will design a general logo for
James to create rack card, NOCS mailers and potentially multi-use stickers for use across all
events. Stephanie, Lauren and Leah will be James' contact for flyer distribution to the schools
