Garland called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. <br />PRESENT: Chairman R. Gazland, Commission Members; B. Brown, D. Frazier, G. Yustick, <br />and B. Martindale. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mayor Thomas O'Grady, School Superintendent Dr. Stanic, <br />ABSENT: Commission member C. Birney <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />B. Martindale moved to approve the March 2, 2005, Cultural Activities minutes as written. <br />G. Yustick seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. <br />III. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Presentation by the Board of Education's Architect on proposed school buildings. <br />Dr. Stanic thanked the commission for allowing the school board to present their concept for <br />capital improvements within the school district. He indicated that the Architectural Vision <br />Crroup from Westlake provided a hardcopy of the schools concepts which will be reviewed. <br />There are many needs within the school district however, not a11 of those needs can be <br />addressed. He would like to see a new 800 seat auditorium such as Westlake's 8.9 million <br />dollar building however, that is not realistic. The middle school auditorium will be <br />revamped. <br />A V G Presentation: <br />The following individuals were present from Architectural Vision Group to present the <br />schools concepts; Mr. Abbs the President, Mr. Smiltars the Vice President, Mr. Kreiner the <br />Education Planner, and Mr. Krepop the Designer. A V G was asked to look at the existing <br />auditorium in regards to lighting, seating, sound systems and new finishes for the room. <br />They looked at how an orchestra could or could not play on the existing stage and the <br />benefits of extending the existing stage. As the existing facility would not only house school <br />functions but communiiy functions as well. By expanding the stage outward 6-feet, it would <br />allow room for a 70 piece orchestra. They also looked at adding an orchestra pit for those <br />times when musical productions are performed. There aze two ways to consiruct an orchestra <br />pit; 1) build a pit which would work on a hydraulic system. 2) build the pit and have a panel <br />system which could be placed over the orchestra pit when not in use. The balcony would be <br />utilized in its present configuration as it can not be changed. Carpeting and fxed theater <br />seats would be put in place and staggered to make sure you are not looking at the back of a <br />persons head. Between the main floor and balcony seating would accommodate about 600 <br />people. It was indicated that by extending the stage outward it would alter the line of view of <br />the audience in the balcony. They are looking at a color scheme that would match the
