CITY OF N012TH OLIVISTED
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES OF JUNE 4, 2008
ROLL CALL
Chair Garland called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the N.O. Branch Library.
Present: Gerald Yustick, Beverle Martindale, John Kepperley, Faye Curry, Royden
Garland, David Wahl
Absent: Timothy Ulewicz
Also Present: Mr. Terry Smith
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Garland moved, seconded by Mr. Kepperley, to approve the minutes of May 7, 2008, which
was unanimously approved, 5-0; Ms. Martindale abstained.
NEW BUSINESS
Frostville Area Streetscape Banners
Mr. Kepperley said he and representatives from Frostville will coordinate the project to place
banners on some utility poles in North Olmsted. The banners will be the same size as those
along Butternut Ridge Road and will change during the summer. The design submitted by Mr.
Yustick may be used but requires additional work. He will be meeting with Planning Director
Wenger on Friday, June 6, 2008. Money may be available to help pay for the banners. Once the
final design and size are determined Ms. Wenger will obtain quotes.
OLD BUSINESS
Frostville Art Show
Mr. Kepperley has received ten applications thus far for the art show, which he believes is close
to the number received last year at this time. Letters with self-addressed, stamped envelopes
were sent to the high school art students inviting them to participate in the art show, two out of
28 mailed were returned. He had hoped to choose three to participate. Ads in The Plain Dealer,
Westlife and Sun Herald were discussed. Some of the budgeted money may pay for advertising.
Mr. Kepperley requests the art be distributed differently this year. The church is to be dedicated
August 3, 2008. Construction materials remain in the area. Bathrooms will not be completed so
portable restrooms will be used. Various scheduled art shows in the area were discussed.
Christmas Liizhting Contest
Mr. Yustick said the dates were changed to the week before Christmas, December 19 and 20.
The registration deadline on the forms will be December 11. Various award categories were
discussed. Pros and cons of taking photos of lighting displays discussed. A copy of the proposal
is to be given to Ms. Wenger for City approval. Prize types, including trophies, gifts, and cash,
and number of prizes to be awarded, were discussed. Three prizes will be awarded to the best
overall displays. The contest will be advertised in local newspapers and on the City website.
