CULTU1tAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLIVISTED <br />MEETING MINUTES OF MARCH 5, 2008 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chair Garland called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the North Olmsted Branch Library. <br />Present: Beverle Martindale, Faye Curry, Gerald Yustick, John Kepperley, Tim Ulewicz, <br />Royden Garland, David Wahl <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Garland moved, seconded by Mr. Yusticlc, to approve the minutes of February 5, 2008, <br />which was unanimously approved, 7-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Art Show Applications <br />Mr. Kepperley said four applications have been returned for the August Art Show. He will have <br />the application put on the city web site to download, and it will also be on the Frostville web site. <br />The Cuyahoga Arts and Culture grant program is still being pursued, however the documentation <br />is very involved and he was unable to make the recent deadline. <br />Black History Month <br />Mr. Dale Thomas spoke about the early settlers in North Olmsted at the North Olmsted Branch <br />Library. Mrs. Martindale was pleased with his presentation and said that the exchange of <br />information was very informative. <br />Author Darlene Miles appeared at the Library for a presentation on her book Corporate Locust, <br />which had a nice turnout. Ms. Miles sold a few of her books and donated two books to the <br />library. The author was pleased with the public response and contacts she made, including <br />additional invitations to spealc about her boolc. <br />Sunday the library did not show the documentaries, the library did have someone come in to <br />discuss the Underground Railroad. Ms. Martindale noted that the Black History event appeared <br />in the paper and on the news. Ms. Curry said more could be offered next year if the Commission <br />prepares early and increases in advertising. Ms. Curry noted that schools interest may increase <br />with earlier notice. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Communitv Lighting Contest <br />Mr. Kepperley suggested deciding on a theme for a citywide lighting contest. There could be <br />different categories for the contest, such as the best development, best theme, best portrayal of <br />the Christmas season. Mr. Kepperley suggested creating applications.
