CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES FOR OC'I'OBER 5, 2011 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Vice Chair Martindale called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m. at the North Olmsted Library. <br />Present: Beverle Martindale, Barbara Brown, David Wahl, Nasreen Starner, Barbara <br />Schirhart <br />Absent: Gerald Yustick, Miguel Cora <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTIOlv OF MINUTES <br />Ms. Starner moved, seconded by Mr. Wahl, to approve the Septernber 7, 2011 minutes, <br />which was approved 5-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />City Hall Art Gallery <br />Ms. Brown reviewed that her pieces were delivered to city hall and will be on display until the <br />end of December 2011 and invited the commission to stop in and view her work. <br />Holiday Lightiniz Contest <br />Ms. Starner said she believes requiring an application and photos of the site discourages property <br />owners and residents from participating in the contest. She felt that each commissioner should <br />view different sections of the city and choose 10 sites they like and would like the committee to <br />view. A brief discussion ensued regarding the 2011 flyer regarding having registration <br />requirements removed. The flyer could state provide photos if available but only the name and <br />address would be required to be entered into the contest. Ms. Martindale questioned what <br />winners receive and Mr. Wahl said three winners receive an engraved ornament from Things <br />Remembered along with a certificate from the Mayor and their photo take for the paper. Ms. <br />Starner said she would work with the PTA group to see if she can get some assistance in view <br />and taking pictures of sites. <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />Olmsted Festival of the Arts <br />Mr. Wahl said the Festival of the Arts was very well received and believed if the weather would <br />have worked in their favor there would have been an even bigger turnout. The layout of the <br />festival was very well done. Mr. Wahl said the Festival of the Arts has been turned over to the <br />Historical Society therefore Cultural Activities will no longer be involved with putting it <br />together. Everyone who participated in the event last year received a ribbon to commemorate the
