CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES OF MARCH 2, 2011 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chair Yustick called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the North Olmsted Branch Library. <br />Present: John Kepperley, Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, Gerald Yustick, Miguel Cora <br />Absent: Nasreen Starner, Barbara Brown <br />Also Present: Jonah Weinberg of the Cuyahoga Arts & Culture organization, Ward III Council <br />Member Paul Schumann <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Kepperley moved, seconded by Ms. Martindale, to approve the minutes of February 2, <br />2011, which was approved 5-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Olmsted Festival of the Arts <br />Mr. Kepperley provided copies of the event poster. A submission from Mr. Yustick has been <br />received and requires a vote. The olmstedfestival@gmail.com site allows the committee to <br />communicate amongst each other and with individuals interested in the festival. Mr. Kepperley, <br />Mr. Schumann, Ms. Wenger, and Ms. Chelsea Schumann make up the committee. The event is <br />being advertised in the Ohio Arts Council brochure under the Northcoast Juried Arts, Crafts and <br />Music Festival. The submission deadline was September 2010, before the new name was <br />adopted. Mr. Kepperley spoke with the director of the Bay Village Community Band about the <br />possibility of performing during the festival. The director intends to visit Frostville and then <br />speak to the band's board of directors. Chelsea Schumann is working on scheduling other music <br />groups. The banners have not yet been discussed. <br />Mr. Wahl moved, seconded by Mr. Cora, to approve 1VIr. Yustick's art show application <br />for the Olmsted Festival of the Arts, which was approved 4-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Cuyaho2a Arts & Culture Speaker <br />Mr. Weinberg said Cuyahoga Arts & Culture is a small public agency that provides a dedicated <br />funding stream through the cigarette tax to provide grants to nonprofit organizations in <br />Cuyahoga County focused on arts and culture issues. There are two primary grant programs. <br />One is operating support for organizations solely focused on artistic and cultural projects. These <br />grant funds are for the various operational and administrative needs of the organization and are <br />awarded every two years. Funding for basic operational needs is difficult to find with most grant <br />programs; providing this type of revenue was a primary goal in establishing the agency. The
