LANDMARKS COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MINUTES FOR JULY 11, 2011
ROLL CALL
Mr. Thomas called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: David Neville, Dale Thomas, Albert Richner, Tom Dubowski, Paul Schumann,
Bryan Walsh
Absent: Don Rerko, Robert Parry, Maryellen Davis
Staff: Director of Planning and Development Kimberly Wenger, Clerk of Commissions
Donna Rote
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowski, to approve the June 13, 2011 minutes
as written which passed 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Designation of Landmarks
4302 Porter Road:
Mr. Thomas reported that there were no further updates for the 4302 Porter Road home; however
the committee will meet prior to the August meeting.
25896 Butternut Ridge Road:
Mr. Richner reviewed his detailed draft on the 25896 Butternut Ridge Road home which
included a report outline, description of residents/owners of the home, Biddulph family history,
current photos of the home, photos of family members, family headstones and a brief history of
the neighborhood and township. In researching the home he found that in fact the Biddulph
murder-suicide took place in the Butternut Ridge home. George's son Fred and wife Clara
mortgaged the home in 1925 with the Olmsted bank for $1,700.00 and it is thought to have been
done to build Springvale Golf Course and Ballroom. Commissioners discussed how well written
and detailed the report was and how to compile the final draft. Ms. Wenger reviewed that once
the report is completed the commission would need to submit the report to the Planning and
Design Commission who would review and make recommendations to City Council.
Butternut Historic District Survey
Ms. Wenger said Thursday, July 7 was the deadline for proposals and four were received. Each
of the firms is well qualified and she will be setting a committee meeting to review the proposals
and make a recommendation to the commission.
